A trail through your body outlining tissues and cells lit while you were immersed in life. Whether stubbed toe, runner’s high, or Grand Canyon at sunset, experiences drop into bodies changing biochemistry, tensegrity, and emotions. The trace encodes all elements of the experience even if you’re not aware: smell, taste, angle of the sun, sounds, biochemistry, muscle tightness, posture, etc.

Integrate the elements or let the trace flow through. As a trace is created, we can decide if it's transformative and learn from it, or mundane and let it float by. If we’re not aware because we’re busy or disconnected, our bodies can save traces until we’re safe to process them. As children, we ran, yelled, and rested as we experienced life; traces integrated and tumbled out of bodies within seconds. As we learned to behave, many of us disconnected from the sensation of traces; others lost the off switch and numbed out in other ways.
If experiences are powerful enough or repeated, traces that aren’t integrated can coalesce into tracks running from head to toe; like tearing through paper by pressing too hard, or creating grooves by tracing a word over and over. Tracks form even if the traces are slightly different: from something you read in a book or heard from a friend. Our bodies use tracks to make sense out of chaos; save similar experiences for future transformation.

Tracks are coils of potential energy running through your body winding, tightening, and waiting. Skin puckers. Bones move. Muscles tighten. Organs shift. Tracks can feel like bands wrapped around you or holes deep inside. Tracks can change blood tests, or make you feel off even if your tests are within normal limits. Tracks can feel better with bodywork, but return quickly.
Tune in so you can help yourself out. Somatic chiropractic care is about transforming your nervous system so that you can unwind tracks and process traces as you encounter them. A somatic chiropractor doesn’t unwind the tracks for you. They provide the least amount of energy so you can recognize and release them. Your job is to breathe, connect with, and transform the places of tension. The more you participate, the easier it becomes, and the more change you can create in one visit.
